Multilingual Learner Education & Funding in Connecticut

Multilingual learners (also commonly referred to as English Learners or English Language Learners) make up nearly 10 percent of Connecticut's public school student population. From the 2013-14 school year to the 2022-23 school year, the number of multilingual learners in Connecticut increased by over 18,000 (57.6 percent) to roughly 50,000 students. This increase occurred even as the state’s total public student enrollment decreased by over 36,000 students (6.6 percent).
