Students and school leaders urged lawmakers Friday to spend an extra quarter billion dollars on schools.

Currently, that increase is scheduled to happen gradually over the next five years.

"First and foremost, show me how the money's invested. Show me how we're taking care of the kids. We're going to make sure they get back in the classroom and get the best opportunity," said Gov. Ned Lamont.

But students warned, without extra funding now their schools could see cuts.

"We are a part of this together, so the thought of my school having to cut things we need to be great brings me great pain, so please do not take this away from me or any of the students here," said Deondrey Martinez, CREC Impact Academy student.

The plan also revamps the state's school funding formula, directing more money to cities, like Bridgeport and Stamford.
