Yesterday, State Representative Jeff Currey (D-East Hartford), co-chair of the General Assembly’s Education Committee, informed the Secretary of State’s office that he will not seek reelection.
The School and State Finance Project released the following statement today from Executive Director Lisa Hammersley thanking Rep. Currey for his service and commitment to Connecticut and its students.

As co-chair of the Education Committee for the past two years, and as a member of the committee since first taking office in 2015, Rep. Currey has been instrumental in passing historic, bipartisan reforms to Connecticut’s education finance system and ushering in a new - and long overdue - era of equitable, student-centered funding.
His commitment to equitable education funding for all schools and communities will benefit generations of Connecticut’s students and their families, and help reduce the racial and economic funding disparities that have plagued our state for decades.
Rep. Currey’s dedication, fight, and passion will be deeply missed, but we wish him all the best in the next chapter of his service to Connecticut. We look forward to continue working with him for the remainder of his term and know that whatever his next chapter may be, he will remain a vocal and collaborative ally for fair, adequate, and transparent education funding for all students.
