Feb 24, 2016 - less than 1 minute

In an effort to continue to provide useful information about K-12 education finance, the Connecticut School Finance Project prepared a complete summary of Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy’s Revised FY 2016-17 Recommended Budget for K-12 Education.

Here are some of the summary's key points:

  • Compared to the appropriated funding levels in P.A. 15-244, Governor Malloy’s proposed revised FY 2016-17 budget reduces funding by the following:
  • Additionally, 5 grants are recommended for elimination at a total savings of about $1.9 million and 5 grants are transferred to the Office of the State Comptroller for a savings of $0.6 million.
  • Finally, the budget’s change to employee benefits accounting and the Municipal Revenue Sharing Account are relevant to this budget are briefly discussed.

Please note this summary is intended for informational purposes only, and should not be construed as either supporting or opposing any of the provisions in the proposed budget. Additionally, this summary is not meant to be an exhaustive analysis of the governor's proposed budget and instead focuses on the proposed revised budget for the State Department of Education, as well as key sections directly related to SDE found under the budget for the Office of the State Comptroller. As a result, programs possibly impacting K-12 in Connecticut that are found under other state agency budgets have not been analyzed or included in this summary.
